When Is Shane Victorino Going to Show You the Finger?

3rd November 2009

nun_ruler1

I never went to a Catholic school, but we’ve all seen that stereotypical scene: the nun with the ruler cracking a misbehaving student over the knuckles.

Now, image how Shane Victorino feels?

The crack across the hand — an A.J. Burnett ball riding inside on a bunt attempt –  hitting Victorino on right index finger.

The Flyin’ Hawaiian is a gamer, and stuck it out until the 8th when he was pulled, but he shook his hands around often enough to know he wasn’t faking the pain. Broken finger? X-Rays showed nada.

Still, if you listened to Charlie Manual today, I swear it was media day at the Super Bowl. “It’s a day-to-day situation,” said Manual doing his best Bill Belichick impression. Manual then went on to say that he (and the rest of the World Series watching world) would know whether he would play after he dressed for Game 6 and started taking BP.

It’s just one more of those games within the games — the story within the story — that is the 2009 World Series. And just think, I never said, “Pedro”… Oops.
