269-200

16th February 2006

More arbitration scorecard news…

Josh Paul of the Devil Rays lost his arbitration case today, making 2006 shake out like this:

Owners 4 Players 2

And, unless Travis Lee’s deal changes (he is expected to land a $2.45 million deal, which is in-between the $2.9 million he has been asking and $2 million the DRays were offering), this should be the final arbitration case heard.

The overall score since arbitration cases have been heard is now 269-200 with the owners holding the lead.

Of course, look at how many players and clubs have settled in the off-season on deals. For more on that, may I suggest reading the great insight on the arbitration process within my interview with Astros President, Tal Smith. And my article on Player Agents that has more of the same from Tal Smith, Fred Claire, Bill James, Jerry Crasnick, and Buzzie Bavasi on The Hardball Times.
