Grimsley’s Salary is Headed for Charity
16th August 2006
The final $504,000 of released Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher, and admitted HGH user, Jason Grimsley’s salary will be haeded to 4 charities as part of a settlement between the DBacks and Grimsley. As Bob Manaman of the Arizona Republic reports (Grimsley’s salary settlement is finalized):
Grimsley’s agent, Joe Bick, said Tuesday his client’s settlement was officially reached last Tuesday and cited that $278,500 would be split between Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation and Grimsley’s church, Christ Community, in Leawood, Kan. The other $225,500 will go to Drug-Free Arizona and the Diamondbacks Foundation.
Grimsley, a former relief pitcher for the team, was released by Arizona in June after admitting to federal agents he used illegal performance-enhancing drugs. The Diamondbacks didn’t want to pay him the rest of his contract, but after Bick and the Major League Baseball Players Association threatened a grievance, the matter was resolved with the settlement.
Grimsley faces a 50-game suspension if he plays again, but he has decided to retire. It isn’t known if he will face any federal charges.
