It’s Alive!

11th January 2006

I wasn’t planning on being a narcissist, but here I am…

You can blame this site on Brian. Please direct all calls to my fellow Hardball Times compadre, Brian Borawski.

Brian mentioned that he could set me up with my own domain, and since I hadn’t considered it prior and thought this was a very gracious offer, I told him I couldn’t refuse.

So… it’s alive.

Some are asking who the heck I am. Many are saying, “I don’t care.” Most of those have read my work. As for “the work”, I am currently the co-chair of SABR’s Business of Baseball committee. I will hold that position until my fellow co-chairs, ESPN Insider columnist Gary Gillette or John Ruoff kill me. I do have good insurance, so my wife and two sons should be set.

Along with the committee co-chair work, I decided that I’d drive myself completely insane 24/7/365 by creating and maintaining, The Business of Baseball website. The site is designed for those that wish to get a better understanding of baseball as a business. The site is broken into several areas, including Data (databases and spreadsheets), Proposed Facilities (documentation by jurisdictions exploring relocation and/or expansion, as well as other clubs), Documents (various documents, both current and historical, dealing with issues within the business of baseball), Bios (biographies from members of SABR on persons within the business of baseball), Articles (suggested reading material from the Business of Baseball Committee of SABR), Interviews (interviews with individuals that have had, or still do impact the business of baseball), History, which chronicles key moments in baseball history as it relates to the business side of things. And, the BizBall Archives

Beyond SABR, I write a weekly article for the aforementioned, Hardball Times which is published every Monday. For those that wish read my prior published work there, they can access my author’s page. I also have a Business of Baseball blog on Baseball Think Factory

What’s he doing this for?

Good question…

I have interviews and published works that are starting to get scattered about. I figure why not take advantage of Brian’s fine gift, and pool them together by links in one spot. That, by itself, would be about as useful as deer guts on a doorknob: You can grab it, but it doesn’t really give you any traction daily.

Nope, I’m going to post commentary and research on some stuff business of baseball related. And, I’ll post daily anything else that seems to fall within my baseball obsession. And that doesn’t mean just me… It means I’ll be soliciting contributing work from others in the baseball press.

Thanks for peeking in.
